On May 17th we will hold our 17th Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby at Eckman Lake on Hwy 34, just across the road from the First Baptist Church. We expect that there will be about 200 children under age 14 who will come to fish. If older siblings come along with the family, we will buy them a day fishing license so they can fish with their siblings.
All the children are to sign up at the church Fellowship Hall about 8:30 a.m., where they will be provided poles, bait, etc., in order to have an enjoyable fishing experience at the lake. All the children who sign up will automatically be entered in the prize drawings that are made throughout day.
The Central Coast Fly Fisherman and the Longview Hills Fishing club will be there to provide fishing instruction. The Forestry Department and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will be there to assure that every child had a great experience, at the same time providing displays and discussion on various items for kids and adults alike.
There are many other events going on, as well as fishing: carnival games for kids with a bounce house, popcorn, cotton candy, drinks, and booths describing various Community programs for the attendees, as well as representatives from our local Sheriff, Fire Department, and Coast Guard.
At about 10:30 a.m., hot dogs will being freshly grilled and served by the church until around 1:00 p.m., along with chips and soda pop – everything is free, as God provides it to us so that we can serve it to you. We plan to cook and serve about 800 hotdogs!
Again this year, the derby will be blessed to have a some college-aged men and women from Trinity Baptist church in Renton, Washington who will assist with the carnival and promote the Vacation Bible Adventure, that is held the last week of July (21-25), here at First Baptist Church.
There is always fantastic community support and participation at this event. The events shut down around 2 p.m. It will be a Great Day!
