Job Description

Position Overview As the Program Manager, you will be instrumental in delivering and expanding high-quality adaptive programs across the Greater Bay Area. Working closely with BORP’s program staff and leadership, you will plan, manage, and develop initiatives that meet the unique needs of individuals with physical and vision disabilities. This position manages Adaptive Sports (including Goalball, Wheelchair Basketball, Rugby etc.) for half of the year, and Cycling for the other half. You will also lend your expertise to support additional program areas as needed including outreach and special events. Team Sports Programmatic Responsibilities

  • Oversee BORP’s adult and youth sports programming
  • Recruit, supervise, and support coaches, instructors and volunteers
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for coaches, athletes and family members
  • Coordinate logistics for team competition, including travel, registration, memberships, equipment, and other operational needs
  • Organize home tournaments for all BORP competitive teams.
  • Secure program facilities and ensure the maintenance of program equipment
The sports season is mainly September-April Cycling Programmatic Responsibilities
  • Manage Berkeley-based adaptive cycling programming
  • Directly manage and oversee recurring thrice weekly Berkeley open hours cycling sessions during the cycling season
  • Supervise and train recreation assistants and volunteers
  • Maintain and upkeep cycling center facility
  • Maintain cycling inventory and coordinate bike upkeep and repair
  • Plan, publicize and coordinate group rides and other recurring program activities and events
The cycling season is mainly May-October Outreach and Community Relations Responsibilities
  • Working with other program managers, spearhead a vigorous, on-going outreach campaign to reach as many new participants as possible.
  • Develop relationships with community organizations, schools, rehabilitation hospitals, and agencies to expand our reach, especially within underserved communities
  • Coordinate outreach events and presentations, serving as spokesperson for BORP programs within the broader community
  • Assist in planning and executing BORP’s special events, including the Adaptive Sports Expo and the Revolution Ride
  • Prepare outreach materials and regular updates for newsletters and social media
Administrative and Development Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with BORP leadership and community partners to develop new initiatives and new programming to address community need
  • Work with the Development Team to help identify funding sources, execute fundraising initiatives, and assist as necessary with grant proposals
  • Handle administrative tasks, including but not limited to: database management, participant memberships, program attendance records, marketing and flyers, scheduling, timesheets, and other logistics that arise
  • Prepare program reports as needed for various funding agencies
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Experience/Skills/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in leadership, management, or coordination of recreation or sports programs.
  • Education and training in leadership & management
  • Knowledge and experience with computers and technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Prior experience working with people with disabilities, preferably within sports or recreation settings
  • Passion and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think creatively and work collaboratively and independently
  • Able to support equipment moving and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, with the capability to drive a van or truck with an attached trailer

Other Requirements
  • Current CPR/First Aid certifications
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, tuberculosis test, and fingerprinting
Compensation This role is designed to be flexible, ranging from 25 to 40 hours per week—based on your interests, skills, and availability. Salary: $63,000–$73,000 annually (prorated for a full-time, 40-hour schedule) based on experience. Employees working over 30 hours per week are eligible for a robust benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, simple IRA with employer match, and generous paid time off (up to three weeks’ vacation and 2.5 weeks’ sick leave).
