SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in providing leadership in implementing the instructional programs, building administration, staff supervision, pupil services, and school/community relations. The Assistant Principal shares the Principal's delegated responsibilities and assumes responsibilities for building programs, operations, and staff in the Principal's absence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Assists and/or establishes the development of the master schedule for instructional programs, instructional assignments, and planning for the sequential learning experiences of students consistent with the school's philosophy, mission, and instructional goals.
- Collaborates, coordinates, and assists in developing and improving instructional programs within the school.
- Assists in supervising school activities involving students, teachers, and other school personnel.
- Supervises and evaluates teachers and departments in collaboration with the Building Principal.
- Conducts teacher observations and formal performance evaluations. Provides mentoring to staff and provides direction in their career and professional development.
- Assists staff in understanding building and District policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Assists in recruiting, screening, selecting, assigning, and training new personnel.
- Assists in defining and disseminating information concerning school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff, and the community.
- Maintains high standards for student conduct and enforces discipline according to due process for the rights of students and under District and building policies and procedures.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in the school(s).
- Assists and works closely with the Principal in performing various public relations duties and activities to promote building programs, inform parents and the community concerning building programs, initiate, progress, or address specific problems/issues/needs.
- Assists and/or coordinates the completion of various building reports required for local, state, or federal officials/agencies.
- Assists in the preparation of the building budget.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Problem-analysis and problem-solving skills, including analyzing information, framing issues and identifying causes, seeking additional information, framing and reframing possible solutions, demonstrating conceptual flexibility, and assisting others in forming opinions.
- Organizational oversight includes scheduling work, using resources appropriately to meet goals, scheduling activity flow, and monitoring procedures to regulate activities and project deadlines.
- Planning, formulating, and implementing building-level programs, activities, and services consistent with District directives and policies.
- Delegation of authority, including assigning tasks so they can be accomplished in a timely and appropriate manner, utilizing subordinates appropriately, and following up on work tasks.
- Public relations, communication, and conflict resolution.
- Dealing with children, staff, parents, administrators, and other educational professionals over parent and student issues and concerns. Interactions require persuasion, instruction, and working with others to gain cooperation and understanding of educational problems/needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - Directly supervises licensed teachers, clerical staff, and educational assistants.
- Indirectly supervises Custodial and food service employees.
- Has responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of employees by School District policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Generally, work is performed under normal office /school conditions where there are minimal environmental risks associated with it. Occasionally, work is performed in outdoor weather conditions. Work may involve some disagreeable human interactions with the public, staff, parents, and students.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Master's degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution required.
- Valid state-issued administrative license or eligibility for licensure as a K-12 Principal.
- A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience, preferably in diverse educational settings, is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in improving student achievement and leading school improvement efforts.
- Experience in fostering an inclusive and equitable school culture.
- Strong background in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and staff development.
